8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2014 Subaru Tribeca?
The NHTSA has issued 10 recalls affecting the 2014 Subaru Tribeca, primarily for air bag inflator defects, hood latch failures, and a transmission parking mechanism issue. Air bag recalls (7 entries) address potentially rupturing passenger frontal air bag inflators that can produce sharp metal fragments, creating serious injury risk; dealers replace the front passenger air bag inflator free of charge under Subaru campaigns. Two hood recalls cover a possible malfunction of the hood safety and lock systems that can let the hood open unexpectedly while driving; dealers inspect, clean and lubricate the latch and may replace or upgrade the latch assembly in a two-phase repair. The transmission recall involves a parking mechanism that may not engage and could prevent the vehicle from being moved if the parking rod detaches; corrective actions are performed by dealers at no cost.
How do I check if my 2014 Subaru Tribeca has an open recall?
You can check your VIN at NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to Mike Shaw Subaru for a free VIN recall check and inspection. To self-check, visit NHTSA.gov and enter your 17-character VIN to view manufacturer and NHTSA recall status; this confirms open campaigns for air bag inflators, hood latch systems, or transmission parking issues. If you prefer dealer assistance, we will verify your VIN and advise next steps—click to schedule appointment at Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton, CO.
How much does a 2014 Subaru Tribeca recall repair cost?
Recall repairs for the 2014 Subaru Tribeca are performed free of charge by the manufacturer and participating dealers. Manufacturer recall work—such as replacement of defective air bag inflators, hood latch repairs, or transmission parking mechanism fixes—is covered by Subaru and completed at no cost to the customer. Mike Shaw Subaru uses OEM parts and factory-trained technicians to complete free recall repairs; if you need service financing for unrelated repairs, ask our service team about options when you schedule service.
Can I get my 2014 Subaru Tribeca recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
The safest and manufacturer-recommended option is to have recall repairs performed at an authorized Subaru dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru to ensure OEM parts and factory procedures are used. Recall repairs are typically completed by franchise dealers to ensure proper diagnostics, access to Subaru recall parts, and warranty documentation; bringing your vehicle to a certified dealer preserves factory recall records and resale value. To book authorized service with certified technicians and OEM parts, schedule appointment at Mike Shaw Subaru; ask about our service financing if you need payment flexibility.
How long does a 2014 Subaru Tribeca recall repair take?
Repair time varies by recall but most recall repairs—such as air bag inflator replacement or hood latch inspection and service—are completed in a few hours to a day, depending on parts availability. Air bag inflator replacement typically requires dealer appointment time for inspection and part installation; hood latch inspections and cleaning are usually quick if parts are available, while more complex transmission interventions may take longer. Mike Shaw Subaru will provide an estimated turnaround when you schedule service and will notify you about any parts or timing updates; we prioritize recall work and offer loaner options when available.
Does an open recall affect my 2014 Subaru Tribeca's trade-in or resale value?
Unresolved recalls can negatively affect trade-in and resale value because buyers and dealers often check NHTSA records and may discount or refuse a vehicle with open safety recalls. Having recalls completed at a franchise dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru protects resale value by providing documented, OEM-complete repairs and preserving title and inspection integrity. If you plan to sell or trade your 2014 Subaru Tribeca, consider getting open recalls remedied at our dealership—visit our trade-in page to start an appraisal at sell your car online.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2014 Subaru Tribeca recall?
Some states allow inspection or registration holds if a safety-related recall remains open and affects critical systems; unresolved safety recalls can be flagged during inspections. Recalls involving airbags, hood latches, or a transmission parking mechanism are safety-related and could impact inspection outcomes or insurance claims if not addressed. To avoid inspection delays, have open recalls remedied at Mike Shaw Subaru; schedule service and ask about our service specials at service specials and service financing options.
