Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2020 Subaru BRZ?
The NHTSA database shows 2 recalls related to certain BRZ vehicles; both recalls reference 2013 model-year BRZ vehicles and associated components. The recalls involve an engine valve spring fracture risk (which can cause an engine malfunction or stall) and an owners manual error about the front passenger occupant classification system; owners should verify applicability to their VIN with Mike Shaw Subaru or NHTSA.
How do I check if my 2020 Subaru BRZ has an open recall?
You can check open recalls by entering your VIN at NHTSA.gov or by contacting Mike Shaw Subaru, where we will check your VIN for free. Bring your vehicle to us or schedule service and our factory-trained technicians will verify recall status, explain findings, and perform any required repairs at no charge; we also offer service financing if you need it.
How much does a 2020 Subaru BRZ recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are performed free of charge to the vehicle owner when covered by the recall. Mike Shaw Subaru uses OEM parts and factory-trained technicians to complete recall repairs; any required parts or labor for the recall are covered by the manufacturer, though unrelated repairs or upgrades may be subject to cost — check our service specials for additional offers.
Can I get my 2020 Subaru BRZ recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be performed by a certified franchise dealer to ensure OEM parts, correct procedures, and warranty compliance; Mike Shaw Subaru is the authorized Subaru franchise in Thornton, CO. Independent shops may not receive free manufacturer-supplied recall parts or official repair instructions; for safety and to preserve resale value, bring your vehicle to a Subaru dealer to schedule service.
How long does a 2020 Subaru BRZ recall repair take?
Repair times vary by recall and part availability, but many recall repairs are completed within a few hours to one business day once parts are in stock. Mike Shaw Subaru will provide an estimated turnaround when you schedule service; if parts are not immediately available we’ll offer prompt follow-up and options to minimize your inconvenience.
Does an open recall affect my 2020 Subaru BRZ's trade-in or resale value?
Yes — unresolved recalls can reduce buyer confidence and may negatively affect trade-in or resale value because dealers and private buyers often verify recall status before purchase. Having recall work performed at Mike Shaw Subaru documents that repairs were done correctly with OEM parts; visit our trade-in page at sell-your-car-online.htm to protect your vehicle’s value.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2020 Subaru BRZ recall?
Some safety-related recalls (especially those affecting airbags or engine stall risk) can affect inspection outcomes or safety certifications depending on local regulations. If you have inspection concerns, contact Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton, CO and schedule service so our certified technicians can confirm recall status and perform required free repairs; we also provide service financing options if needed.
