8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2015 Subaru BRZ?
The NHTSA lists two BRZ-related recalls in its database, covering engine valve springs and an owners manual clarification for certain model years. Specifically, the engine valve-spring recall (NHTSA recall WTY-84) affects some 2012–2014 Subaru Impreza and select 2013 BRZ models and may cause valve spring fracture and possible engine stall. The owners manual recall affects some 2013 BRZ vehicles produced November 25, 2011–May 25, 2012, where the passenger occupant classification system description required correction. Because those recalls target earlier BRZ model years, your 2015 Subaru BRZ may not be directly affected; we strongly recommend a VIN check to confirm—you can schedule service and we will check your VIN free of charge.
How do I check if my 2015 Subaru BRZ has an open recall?
You can confirm open recalls by checking your VIN with NHTSA.gov or by bringing your vehicle to Mike Shaw Subaru for a free VIN recall check. Use the NHTSA website to enter your 17-digit VIN, or let our service advisors run the check when you schedule appointment. If a manufacturer recall applies, Subaru will provide the remedy at no cost and our dealership will coordinate the repair using OEM parts and factory diagnostic tools.
How much does a 2015 Subaru BRZ recall repair cost?
Recall repairs performed under a manufacturer recall are free of charge to the vehicle owner. Mike Shaw Subaru will perform recall repairs at no cost using OEM parts and factory-trained technicians; if related or non-covered repairs are recommended, we will disclose costs up front and offer service financing through our financing application. To take advantage of free recall repairs, please schedule service at our Thornton service center or check our current service specials.
Can I get my 2015 Subaru BRZ recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be completed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts, factory procedures, and warranty compliance; Mike Shaw Subaru is a certified Subaru franchise qualified to perform these remedies. Some independent shops may assist, but the official remedy and parts distribution for a recall are administered by the manufacturer and performed through authorized dealers to maintain compliance with the recall campaign. For safety and to protect your vehicle history, we recommend scheduling your recall service with our factory-trained technicians in Thornton; you can schedule service online today.
How long does a 2015 Subaru BRZ recall repair take?
Recall repair time varies by campaign and parts availability but many dealer-performed recall repairs can be completed in a single service appointment. For the valve spring replacement or manual update referenced by NHTSA, the dealership will provide an estimated timeframe when you schedule appointment; if parts are delayed, we will notify you promptly and offer loaner or shuttle options when available. Mike Shaw Subaru aims to minimize downtime with efficient scheduling, OEM parts, and certified technicians; ask about current wait times and available service financing when you call or book online.
Does an open recall affect my 2015 Subaru BRZ's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can negatively affect trade-in and resale value because many buyers and dealers check NHTSA recall status during valuation. Completing recall repairs at a certified dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton protects the vehicle’s value and provides documented proof that factory-recommended repairs were completed using OEM parts. If you plan to sell or trade your 2015 Subaru BRZ, resolving recalls before appraisal is the best way to maximize value—start with a no-cost recall check and get a trade-in estimate.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2015 Subaru BRZ recall?
Most states do not fail a vehicle solely because of an open recall, but some safety-related recalls that disable safety systems could affect inspection results or roadworthiness determinations. Because NHTSA-classified defects can increase crash risk (for example, the engine stall risk tied to valve spring fracture), we advise prompt recall resolution to maintain safe operation and compliance with any local inspection rules. To avoid inspection or insurance complications, have your 2015 Subaru BRZ checked and repaired at Mike Shaw Subaru—click to schedule appointment and ask about available service specials and service financing options.
