Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2026 Subaru Impreza?
The NHTSA database shows 40 recalls across multiple model years related to the Impreza family affecting components such as brake light switches, air bag inflators, engine valve springs, ECM/ignition coils, PCV valves, brake lines, fuel pumps, and CVT lever components. Most entries cover prior model years (2003–2021); not every recall applies to every vehicle year, including the 2026 Subaru Impreza, so VIN verification is required. Key consumer-facing defects include brake light switch contamination (brake lights may not illuminate), air bag inflator rupture risk, engine stalls from fractured valve springs or ECM faults, brake line corrosion, and potential CVT select lever issues. All listed corrective actions are performed free of charge under manufacturer recall campaigns and originate from NHTSA records; our team at Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton, CO can confirm applicability for your VIN. If you want immediate help, schedule service with us — recall repairs are free and our dealership offers service financing so you can get service now and pay later.
How do I check if my 2026 Subaru Impreza has an open recall?
The fastest way is to check your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring your VIN to a certified dealer; Mike Shaw Subaru can check your VIN at no charge. We can also pull manufacturer records for you when you schedule service or call our service team; this step is free and confirms whether a recall applies to your exact vehicle. Because the NHTSA lists recalls by model year and component, VIN verification avoids confusion about older campaigns that may not affect new production changes in 2026 models. Our factory-trained technicians use OEM diagnostic tools to cross-check NHTSA and manufacturer databases and will explain required repairs and expected timing.
How much does a 2026 Subaru Impreza recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are performed at no cost to the vehicle owner — price is $0 under the recall campaign. That includes parts, labor, and any required software updates or part replacements when the issue is confirmed by the dealer, consistent with NHTSA recall corrective actions. If work beyond the recall scope is requested, Mike Shaw Subaru offers service specials (service specials) and service financing to help manage non‑recall maintenance.
Can I get my 2026 Subaru Impreza recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be completed by an authorized repair facility designated by the manufacturer to ensure OEM parts and correct procedures; a certified Subaru dealer is the safest choice. Mike Shaw Subaru is a factory-authorized Subaru franchise with factory-trained technicians, OEM parts, and manufacturer diagnostic tools needed to complete recall repairs per Subaru and NHTSA requirements. Using a franchise dealer preserves warranty integrity and protects resale value, and the manufacturer covers recall repairs only when performed under authorized programs.
How long does a 2026 Subaru Impreza recall repair take?
Most recall repairs are completed within a few hours to one business day depending on parts availability and the repair complexity. For issues requiring parts replacement or software updates (for example ECM updates, ignition coil replacement, or brake light switch replacement), dealers typically provide an estimated turnaround when you schedule appointment. Mike Shaw Subaru prioritizes recall work and can often offer same-week appointments; we also post current offers and timing through our service specials. Remember: recall work is free and our service financing options are available if you need additional non-recall repairs at the same visit.
Does an open recall affect my 2026 Subaru Impreza's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can negatively affect trade-in offers or buyer confidence; many dealers and private buyers check NHTSA records before purchase. Having recalls resolved at an authorized dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru documents that safety issues were addressed properly using OEM parts, which protects resale and trade-in value. If you're considering trade-in, you can link recall resolution to your appraisal and we can assist — start the process with our trade-in page at sell your car online.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2026 Subaru Impreza recall?
Some safety-related recalls (brake light failures, brake line leaks, air bag issues) can cause a vehicle to fail state safety inspections; it depends on local inspection rules and the specific defect. Because several listed Impreza recalls involve brake lights, brake lines, and air bag inflators, owners in Colorado and neighboring states should verify recall status to avoid inspection failure or unsafe driving conditions. Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton, CO will confirm recall applicability and perform the free manufacturer repair so your vehicle meets inspection and safety standards.
