The NHTSA has issued 2 recalls affecting the 2013 Subaru BRZ: an engine valve spring fracture concern and an inaccurate owner’s manual description of the passenger occupant classification system. The engine recall (NHTSA campaign WTY-84) warns that valve springs may fracture and cause an engine malfunction or stall, which raises crash risk; dealers will replace valve springs free of charge. The owner’s manual recall addresses inaccurate information about the front passenger occupant classification and air bag descriptions; Subaru will mail corrected owner’s manuals free of charge.

Recall repairs must be performed by an authorized franchise dealer to ensure OEM parts and factory procedures are used; for safety-critical recalls it’s the recommended route. Mike Shaw Subaru uses factory-trained technicians, OEM parts, and Subaru diagnostic tools to complete recall repairs correctly and maintain warranty and resale value. If you need help confirming coverage or want to schedule appointment, our service team in Thornton is ready to assist and we offer service financing if needed.
How long does a 2013 Subaru BRZ recall repair take?
Typical recall repairs are completed in a few hours to a day, but actual time depends on parts availability and required procedures. For the valve spring replacement, dealers will schedule and complete the repair as soon as parts and appointments are available; the owner’s manual correction is fulfilled by mailing the updated manual. Contact Mike Shaw Subaru to schedule service—we’ll provide an estimated turnaround and offer loaner or shuttle options when available.
Does an open recall affect my 2013 Subaru BRZ's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can negatively impact trade-in offers and buyer confidence because many buyers and dealers check NHTSA records before purchase. Resolving recalls at a certified dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru protects resale and trade-in value and documents that manufacturer-required work was completed using OEM parts. When you’re ready to sell or trade, start with a free recall check and get a certified repair at our dealership; you can begin the appraisal process via our trade-in page.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2013 Subaru BRZ recall?
State inspection rules vary, but safety-related recalls can lead to inspection failures or registration issues in some jurisdictions. Because the engine valve spring recall can cause a stall and is a direct safety risk, resolving that recall promptly reduces the chance of inspection or insurance complications. Schedule a free recall check and repair with Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton to ensure your 2013 Subaru BRZ meets safety standards and state requirements.
