Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2021 Subaru Ascent?
The NHTSA database shows five recalls related to the Ascent line, including issues with structure, driveshaft, transmission control module, PCV valve, and low-pressure fuel pump. These recalls were originally filed for certain 2019 Ascent vehicles but the defects — missing spot welds at the B-pillar, potential driveshaft separation, faulty transmission hydraulic sensor calibration, PCV valve separation, and an inoperative low-pressure fuel pump — are documented in NHTSA records and may affect related model years. Owners can call Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 for manufacturer details and references (recall numbers WTU-80, WUI-94, WUV-07, WUW-08, WRD-20).
How do I check if my 2021 Subaru Ascent has an open recall?
Check your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to Mike Shaw Subaru for a free VIN recall check. You can also call Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614, or have our service team confirm recalls during a visit; to schedule service online is quick and simple. We recommend confirming recall status before selling or trading your vehicle; unresolved recalls can affect safety and value.
How much does a 2021 Subaru Ascent recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are performed at no charge to the owner. At Mike Shaw Subaru, all recall repairs use OEM parts and factory-trained technicians and will be completed free of charge under the manufacturer program. If you need help with scheduling or need alternative transportation while repairs are completed, our service advisors can discuss options and current service specials.
Can I get my 2021 Subaru Ascent recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be performed by an authorized dealer to guarantee OEM parts and that manufacturer warranty and recall protocols are followed; a franchise dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru is the recommended and proper choice. Independent shops cannot authorize or access certain manufacturer-only parts and software updates required for recalls such as transmission control unit reprogramming or full assembly replacements. To ensure the recall repair is performed correctly and remains documented on NHTSA and manufacturer records, please schedule appointment with our certified techs.
How long does a 2021 Subaru Ascent recall repair take?
Repair times vary by recall: reprogramming can be completed in a few hours while parts replacement or engine/short-block replacement can take longer; our typical turnaround is clearly communicated when you schedule service. For example, TCM reprogramming (recall WUV-07) is often quick, whereas replacing a driveshaft assembly (WUI-94) or a short block (WUW-08, if applicable) requires more shop time. We use OEM diagnostic tools and factory-trained technicians to expedite accurate repairs; ask about loaner options and confirm estimated completion when you arrive.
Does an open recall affect my 2021 Subaru Ascent's trade-in or resale value?
Yes — unresolved recalls can reduce trade-in and resale value and may deter buyers who check NHTSA records or request VIN history. Having recall work completed at Mike Shaw Subaru protects value, ensures proper documentation, and reassures buyers that OEM procedures and parts were used; you can begin a trade evaluation at sell-your-car-online.htm. Dealers and private buyers increasingly verify recall status before purchase; timely, documented repairs help preserve market value.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2021 Subaru Ascent recall?
State inspection failure policies vary; while many recalls do not automatically fail an inspection, safety-related recalls that affect crashworthiness or emissions could lead to inspection issues in some jurisdictions. Because recalls can impact safety systems (for example, the B-pillar structure or fuel pump stall risk), Mike Shaw Subaru recommends resolving open recalls before inspection or transfer of ownership. Contact our service team to verify recall status and schedule service; we also offer service financing through our online pre-approval at financing/application.htm so you can get needed service now and pay later.
