Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2016 Subaru WRX?
The NHTSA has issued 24 recalls affecting the 2016 Subaru WRX, covering airbags, ignition switches, brake components, brake lights, turbocharger air intake ducts, electrical subwoofer wiring, and the Eyesight driver assist system. These recalls come from official NHTSA records and include multiple air bag inflator campaigns and a turbocharger air intake duct issue that can cause engine stall. If you want a dealer inspection, schedule service with Mike Shaw Subaru and our factory-trained technicians will check your VIN and complete any required recall repairs at no charge.
How do I check if my 2016 Subaru WRX has an open recall?
You can check recalls by entering your VIN at NHTSA.gov or bring the vehicle to Mike Shaw Subaru and we will check the VIN for free. NHTSA records identify the component and campaign number; our service team verifies eligibility and provides next steps. If you prefer dealer assistance, schedule appointment and we will confirm open recalls and advise on timing; ask about service financing if you need it now and want to pay later.
How much does a 2016 Subaru WRX recall repair cost?
Recall repairs for the 2016 Subaru WRX are performed free of charge under the manufacturer's recall program. Mike Shaw Subaru uses OEM parts and factory-trained technicians to complete recall fixes at no cost to you, including parts and labor covered by Subaru. If you need other non-recall repairs, ask about our current service specials and service financing options.
Can I get my 2016 Subaru WRX recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be performed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts and proper factory procedures; Mike Shaw Subaru is the certified Subaru franchise in Thornton, CO that performs these repairs. Independent shops cannot always access Subaru-specific parts, VIN validation, or manufacturer warranty claim submission—only a franchise dealer can complete the official recall remedy and document it with the manufacturer. To ensure safety and correct documentation, schedule service with Mike Shaw Subaru for free recall repairs and peace of mind.
How long does a 2016 Subaru WRX recall repair take?
Most recall repairs for the 2016 Subaru WRX range from quick inspections to same-day part replacements; typical visit time is one to a few hours depending on the campaign and parts availability. The turbocharger air intake duct or airbag inflator replacements may take longer if parts need ordering, but our service advisors will give a time estimate when you schedule appointment. We recommend calling ahead or using online scheduling so Mike Shaw Subaru can prepare parts and prioritize your vehicle for a faster turnaround.
Does an open recall affect my 2016 Subaru WRX's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can reduce buyer confidence and may lower trade-in or resale value because many dealers and buyers check NHTSA records prior to purchase. Completing recall repairs at an authorized dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru protects resale value, provides documented proof of remedy, and avoids potential title or registration issues in some states. When you are ready to sell or trade, visit our trade-in page at sell-your-car-online.htm to get an appraisal after recalls are completed.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2016 Subaru WRX recall?
Open recalls themselves do not automatically cause inspection failure in every state, but safety-related defects such as non-functioning brake lights or faulty airbags can lead to a failed inspection. Because some recalls affect brake lights, brake lines, or airbag inflators, unresolved campaigns could cause inspection failures depending on local regulations; Mike Shaw Subaru can advise for Thornton and Colorado requirements. To avoid surprises, schedule service and let our technicians verify and remedy any open recalls before your inspection; ask about our service financing if needed.
