What Is Preventative Maintenance? Why Does it Matter?

Preventative maintenance includes regular oil changes and other fluid changes, tire rotations, air filter replacement, serpentine belt inspection and replacement, and multi-point inspections. These are among the most important services to ensure you get the most out of a Subaru model. For the duration of the Subaru factory warranty, it is especially important that this preventative maintenance is performed by an authorized Subaru service center.

One of the greatest benefits of preventative maintenance is that it helps keep your vehicle from developing larger problems. Oil that hasn't been changed frequently enough can damage your vehicle's engine. Tires that aren't rotated frequently enough will wear out unevenly, and that can lead to problems beyond needing new tires more frequently. An old, clogged air filter can decrease the power and efficiency of your vehicle. These are all easy to avoid with proper preventative maintenance--but once they develop into bigger problems, it takes more time and money to fix them.

Sticking to a schedule for preventative maintenance is important. The manual that came with your Subaru will have general guidelines; however, since environments and driving styles differ, it's best to talk to an authorized Subaru dealer for specific information on just how often your vehicle should be brought in for service.
