Road trips are a great American tradition. Wherever you're headed, the Denver Metro Area is a great place to start a road trip from--and an even better place to come back to. Of course, you want your road trip to go smoothly, but what is the best way to go about that? At Mike Shaw Subaru, we're here to help. Below, we've listed four ways to make sure your Subaru is ready for the journey ahead.

4. Hope for the Best, but Prepare for the Worst
In the Front Range, we're used to heat, rain, snow, wind, and hail--sometimes all in one day! People who have lived in Colorado for a little while know to always be prepared for all kinds of weather conditions, and that's the case for road trips, as well. Make sure your Subaru has things like chains, road salt, extra water, and other items that may be useful in different weather conditions.
Being prepared also means that you should have an emergency roadside kit in the unlikely event of a breakdown. This kit should include jumper cables, tools, and other items that you can use for emergency maintenance. Make sure you also have the spare tire, jack, and tire iron with you. While you're at it, toss in a quality first aid kit.

3. Protect the Inside of Your Subaru
Spills, mud, crumbs, trash, and more can all mess up the inside of your Subaru during a long road trip. A great way to protect the carpeting is to get a set of all-weather floor mats. These easy-to-clean mats are a great way to keep the inside of your Subaru clean, even if your trip involves running around in the mud. As for trash, it's a good idea to bring some trash bags along for the trip. That way, passengers will be less likely to toss their empty garbage onto the floor.

2. Get Your Subaru Inspected
Before you head out for a road trip, it's best to bring your Subaru in to an authorized service center for a multi-point inspection. If you mention that you're headed on a road trip, the technicians can keep an extra close eye on those systems that may be more strained by a longer journey.
1. Make a Road Trip Checklist
What's something that the three pieces of advice above have in common? You should write them all down on a checklist. Several days before you head on your journey, we recommend writing down everything you need to do to get ready for the trip. This includes writing down what luggage you need, as well as other items like entertainment, food, drinks, and more. This makes it much harder to forget things on the day of the road trip.
