2017 Subaru Crosstrek vs. Mazda CX-5: Design Comparison
Similarly sized and styled, the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek and the Mazda CX-5 may seem similar on paper, but when you take into account the fact that the Crosstrek costs thousands less, you're getting more for your money when you choose Subaru. Both crossovers feature similar standard and available features such as alloy wheels, room for 5, optional leather interior and more. The Crosstrek outdoes the CX-5 where it counts, though, offering greater front head room and front leg room.

2017 Subaru Crosstrek vs. Mazda CX-5: Performance Facts
Under the hood of every new 2017 Subaru Crosstrek you'll find a 2.0-liter BOXER engine that's well-balanced. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine of the CX-5 may be more powerful, but it can't give you as good of fuel economy as the Crosstrek, especially at the top trim level. The Crosstrek also offers the fine control of a manual transmission or a smooth-shifting CVT whereas the Mazda CX-5 only comes with a six-speed automatic. The most glaring difference between these two SUVs is that every Crosstrek features all-wheel drive. You have to pay more for AWD if you want it in the CX-5.

2017 Subaru Crosstrek vs. Mazda CX-5: Safety Information
Both the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek and the Mazda CX-5 feature multiple airbags, a rearview camera, antilock brakes, traction control and stability control. Emergency telematics and driver assistance technology is available as an option on select trim levels of both vehicles as well. As previously stated, you get to enjoy the added stability of all-wheel drive no matter which Crosstrek you choose to drive and at a much better price than if you get an AWD CX-5. At the time of this writing, the CX-5 hadn't been tested by either the IIHS or the NHTSA, but it would be hard pressed to beat the Top Safety Pick designation and 5-star rating earned by the Crosstrek in these safety trials.
